Mi Barrio
El Suso
My Neighborhood
My neighborhood, today appears in the news on any newscast
That parents, are left without their jobs
And now they wait in line at a solidarity dining room
In my neighborhood, the police can be seen patrolling its streets
Enforcing the sentences of people they have evicted
I have seen on the sidewalks more than a thousand mothers crying
And there is no joy in the streets
Nor children playing in the parks
My neighborhood is so sad that it has incurable scars
I will paint a smile on the faces of my people
I will change their cowardice for brave hearts
And despite what they say, I will try to make them strong
And to fight for a different world
In my neighborhood, bad experiences build men of mud
And they see no way out of what they once studied
The future of being someone around here passes by
In my neighborhood, I would give anything for the sun to dry up the puddles
Of immense tears, shed over the years
May the silence of the night be broken by my voice shouting
That joy is already seen in the streets
And children playing in the parks
My neighborhood is not sad and has incurable scars
I will fight
I will live
And stop living in a hurry, giving back the smile
I will fight
I will live
