Calvário
Eliã Oliveira
Calvary
Carved wood, hammer and nails
Crown of thorns, all prepared
A crowd was waiting
For the sad moment of crucifixion
He was judged, and so humiliated
Hearing the crowd shouting
Release Barabbas, and kill the Nazarene
Pilate washing his hands
And to please the people
Jesus was handed over to the executioners
Without mercy, the executioners whipped Him
They spat on His face, and mocked Him
And He suffered with the heavy cross
Oh, what great pain
My Jesus followed, being mistreated
Feeling the pain for our sins
Carrying on His shoulders
The heavy cross, without complaining
As the time came to crucify Him
His mother crying, inconsolable
The nails piercing His feet and hands
His sweat and blood falling to the ground
Feeling thirsty, they gave Him vinegar
There was no one to console Him
And at the ninth hour He exclaimed saying
Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?
He yielded His spirit and expired there
At that moment the Earth trembled
The veil was torn, the Sun darkened
Rocks split
And many tombs of saints were opened
The centurion soon understood
Seeing the turmoil on Earth and in the sky
He said, astonished
Truly this man was the Son of God
A great silence fell on the earth
Everything was sad, without joy
Mary crying with the other women
Walked to the tomb where He lay
Arriving there, they saw an angel
Sitting on the stone that had been removed
With a gentle voice the angel spoke
Mary, do not fear! I know who you seek
He is not here, He has risen
The tomb could not hold my Jesus
He conquered death, hell on the cross
Satan defeated
For my Christ crushed his head
I proclaim loudly: My Christ is the greatest
He defeated death on the cross
The victory is ours
For our Christ has risen
