A Maior Dor

The Greatest Pain
Sobbing was heard, blood was falling
Feeling anguish and a great pain
A crown of thorns piercing his forehead
Hands and feet being nailed
On the cross they crucified my Lord
He asked for water, they gave him vinegar
He endured lashes and the people mocked my savior
The greatest pain he felt was not from the nails, the crown, or the lashes
But it was our sin that, taking upon himself, caused him the greatest pain
And he cried out in agony 'Elohim, lamá sabactâni'
But upon him were our sins
That's why the father could not look upon him
Undeserving, innocent without ever sinning
He died on that cross to save humanity
The earth shook, the sun darkened, and the temple veil tore
When he cried out 'It is finished'
The centurion, amazed by all that happened, said truly this man is the Son of God
They took him down from the cross, his mother lamenting
The disciples separated, crying in anguish
And they buried Jesus, placing a stone at the tomb
Guards watched over Jesus' holy body
While someone thought he had died and wept for him there
Jesus descended into hell, his brightness unsettling those there
And Jesus, without explanation, with authority and power
Took the keys of death and hell
Satan was defeated as the resurrected Christ crushed his head
And on the third day in the morning, Mary went to the tomb, seeking
To see Jesus' body but she didn't remember it was the third day
Seeing someone, she thought it was the gardener and asked where
They had put the body of her Christ because the stone that was in the tomb was now removed
Where have you hidden the body of my master, tell me where you put it
Mary cried out as great was the anguish in her heart
Suddenly she heard a voice, 'Mary, do not fear, I am by your side, go tell my brothers the tomb is empty
I have conquered death and I am alive
I am alive, I am alive, alive, alive, I am alive
