Jephthah
The Gileadite, valiant and valorous Jephthah
He was the son of an infamous woman
That's why he was rejected
His family deliberately cast him out
Left his home without value
And so, he was despised
He ran away from his home
And went to another place
But in control of it all was (Jehovah)
Jephthah, dwelt in the land of Tob
And there formed his army
Of vile and despised men
How could anyone imagine?
That this man God wanted to use
To fight for his people
And it happened, for
Like the children of Ammon
They fought against Israel
The elders of Gilead went to seek Jephthah
And said: Come and be our head
So that we may fight
Against the children of Ammon
But Jephthah answered
Have you not hated me
And cast me out of my father's house?
Why then have you come to me
When you are in distress?
God now changes the scene
And the rejected one is exalted
And the elders of Gilead go
With humility to call Jephthah
Only God can do this
He fills with prestige, those of no value
Jephthah becomes the leader
Of the people who rejected him
When God wants to exalt
The Gileadite must humble himself
And the Ammonite will be defeated
By the hands of the one
Whom God wants to honor
When God wants to exalt
No matter the contempt, nor the loneliness
Nor humiliation
The Lord lifts up the despised
And makes him a champion!
