Igual que una sombra
Enrique Cadícamo
Just Like a Shadow
Today I saw her after a year,
today she crossed my wound.
My lovely, affectionate doll was going,
she was next to another owner, my dream;
that dream of my life.
But her heart was the same
that is always in my love,
and in my starless nights
she is my great pain.
She is a shadow
that clouds my mind
when, unintentionally, I mention her.
She is my past, she is my present.
And I can't erase her from my mind.
She's in my quatrains,
she's in my anguish,
she's in my poet's pain;
like gray tango roots,
she is in my heart.
Winter comes again,
and my life without loves.
Her long-awaited call no longer sounds,
and I don't hear her pure tenderness.
How empty I have become!
But it's the same, heart,
she is always in my love,
my sad verses belong to her
tangos of pain.
