Justo El 31
Enrique Santos Discépolo
Just The 31st
Five days ago,
Crazy with joy
I live in motion
Like a carousel...
She who thought
To tie me down,
Just the thirty-first
I beat her to it...
A neighbor told me,
That the crazy Englishwoman,
When she saw the room
Without a pin,
She ate the rope
Used to hang clothes
(which was in the rush,
What I forgot...).
If she doesn't hang me
For the ones I went through.
It was a crazy monkey
I found in a tree
One hungry night
That saw me pass by.
He threw a little coconut at me...
I, being a scaredy-cat...
I got stuck in the dark
And took her to the apartment!...
I know I entered the room
And lit the candle,
I know I turned around
To see her well...
She was so ugly,
That I saw her, screamed,
The rest was a dream...
I, fainted!
I endured her sorrow
For almost four months,
Among the mockery
Of all the café...
They threw nuts at me,
While shouting at me:
'There goes sarrasani
With the chimpanzee'!...
Thanks to the 'lefty',
Who is right-handed,
Watered the fern
When it was about to rise;
And the trick
To tie me down,
Just the thirty-first
I cut it off!
