A Partida e o Norte
Estevão Queiroga
The Departure and the North
When I left, my heart broke in me
My feet trembled as I stepped on a different ground
I said goodbye and to God I said without reason
That my only company was loneliness
The fire burned me, but it warmed me
The light that blinded me, made me see God
My soul was satisfied without water and bread
The mother of hope is the trial
Over the road it got dark and dawned
And I saw that the darkest days are also yours
The man I left home lost himself
And the journey created a new me
The fire burned me, but it warmed me
The light that blinded me, made me see God
My soul was satisfied without water and bread
The mother of hope is the trial
The path changes, and the traveler changes
It's an uncertain path, not a wrong path
I, the traveler, want the journey to end
But, on the way, what matters most is the journey
I left footprints in the valley of death
A barren ground for my many flaws
My life expanded in narrow paths
And I saw you
The Departure
And the North
The fire burned me, but it warmed me
The light that blinded me, made me see God
My soul was satisfied without water and bread
The mother of hope is the trial
