The Suitcase
Dreams and goals in the suitcase
Had to take it to the other side
Highs and lows, from the low
Had to drive all the way to Kentucky
It was risky but I took the chance
Had to gamble a few coins
Made some cash with several loads
And the envy came quick
What does he do? How does he manage?
He’s got five cars and we made the same
Jealous people, always scheming
They enjoy it more when they see you fail
I made the rounds, suitcase in hand
Felt the life and had extra cash
I got crafty, wanted more frog skins
The young bucks never bothered me
I got back home, felt sad
Couldn’t even see my dear mom
Went to her house to greet her
But they’d already talked bad about me
Where have you been? What’s going on?
When were you planning to settle down?
It made me sad, I put on the table
Some cash she didn’t want to take
My mother said, you’re a father now
And you don’t think about your kids
The last round, with the suitcase
This is the last one, I promise, mom
Left some business and pending deals in Kentucky
And a little bill they owe me
I was strapped, motivated, with company
And suddenly an officer stopped me
Life is tough, that’s how it starts
And unfortunately, that’s how it has to end
I made it to Texas, then the bars
And a sentence is what I have to pay
My mother suffers and blesses me from home
I know my wife and kids will miss me
It was risky but it was a gamble
And the coin in the air has to spin
I know I was stubborn and reckless
Couldn’t get used to being poor
Now I’m locked up and broke
Like in a casino, I didn’t know when to quit
My mother prays, I know it weighs on her
But it’s not her fault, I wanted to take the risk
Don’t cry, mom, don’t be sad
I just hope you can forgive me
