Un Uomo
Eugenio Finardi
A Man
She didn't know but she was waiting for a Man
To shake her just like thunder
To calm her like forgiveness
To possess her and also be a gift
It had been a long time she was waiting for the Man
Who would hypnotize her just with the sound
Of his sweet and impertinent voice
That she couldn't resist
That makes her feel intelligent
Beautiful, dirty, and elegant
As if she were naked among people
But pure and holy like a diamond
A Man sweet and tough in Love
Who knows how to take and then give
With whom to make love, talk, and eat
And then again let himself be loved
To bury herself completely in the scent
That remains on her for hours
That she never wants to wash away
To avoid risking forgetting
To remind her that she knows how to love
A Man who can reassure
Who makes her dare to dream
As she has never been able to imagine
A Man full of sunsets
Of moments, stories, and horizons
Who looks at you and says, 'What do you feel?'
As if he could read your feelings
A senseless Man
Also a bit fragile but so intense
With his smell of dense smoke
Of tobacco and wine and even incense
Unpresentable to your parents
So consistent even in his mistakes
Especially to you who until the day before yesterday
You controlled even your desires
You who lived in the illusion
Of dominating every passion
You who despised too much emotion
As an enemy of Reason
You have never been so relaxed
So serene and abandoned
So alive and so lost
As if you had just found yourself
A Man sweet and tough in Love
Who knows how to take and then give
With whom to make love, talk, and eat
And then again let himself be loved
