El Anillo Del Capitán Beto
Fabiana Cantilo
Captain Beto's Ring
There goes Captain Beto through space,
with his fiber ship made in Haedo.
Yesterday a bus driver,
today a master among the masters of the air.
He's been on his journey for fifteen years;
his equipment is as precarious as his destiny.
However, a strange ring
keeps his dangers away in the cosmos.
There goes Captain Beto through space,
Carlos' photo on the dashboard
and a River Plate pennant
and the sad little saint's picture.
Where is the place everyone calls heaven?
If no one comes here
to share some bitter drinks like on my old doorstep
Why did I come here, if I can't stand the loneliness anymore?
I can't stand the loneliness anymore.
His ring immunizes him against danger,
but it doesn't protect him from sadness.
Navigating through the galaxy of Man,
there goes Captain Beto, the wanderer.
Where will there be a city where someone whistles a tango?
Where are, where are
the garbage trucks, my old lady, and the coffee?
If this continues like this, not even a sad shadow will remain,
not even a sad shadow will remain.
There goes Captain Beto through space,
watering the geraniums in his cabin.
Without a compass and without a radio,
he will never be able to return to Earth.
It took many years to find him.
Beto's ring had a soul sign engraved on it.
