Abschied

Oh valleys wide, oh heights, oh beautiful green woods
You are my joy and pain's abode
Out there, always deceived, the wild world rushes
Now wrap me in your embrace, you green tent

There stands in the woods a quiet, serious word
Of doing right and loving, and of man's refuge
I have faithfully read the words, simple and true
And through my whole being, it penetrated unspeakably clear

Soon I will leave you and go to foreign lands
To see the colorful streets of life's grand show
And in the midst of life, your primal force
