O Mar
Fausto Bordalo Dias
The Sea
And all the sea covered itself with endless riches
of blue and silks and jewels and fragrant drugs
it laid upon the beaches muscatel and liquors
sweetening from its fierceness
the sea
on the damasked shores scattered shipwrecks walk
picking up lobsters oysters sea bass
and they drink distinct wines with unique aromas
if one walks along the coast in offerings
the sea
And Leonor surrendered
her hair to the winds
in such solitude
so absent from everything
and quieter was the light
in the calmness of the waters
and a music trickles from the heavens
gently
And they make tents of majestic carpets hoops
of other pieces of gold and silver of cambric and satin
covered with red quilts crystal rosaries
but more colorful than all that beach
the sea
and they make sails from shirts and others from green damask
the ties of other cloths of crimson velvet
from an oar they made the mast
and the rigging from a line
and so sweetly rocks this boat
the sea
If all the sea covered itself with endless riches
