The Old Ones
The old ones are embarrassed children
who return to the square to seek the sun
and entertain a group of pigeons
while life passes by.
The old ones walk, wandering the paths
contemplating the winter to come,
delaying their steps until nightfall
to return home without bothering anyone...
And they know that life is not so long
and they look at the future backwards...
the old ones are afraid of their truth.
The old ones are the life
escaping leaning on a cane,
the old ones are a herd in retreat
from the mirror and the clock...
and they feel a taste in their mouth
that makes them say that the past time was better
and they keep the sadness... in their hearts.
The old ones are transparent silhouettes,
distant gaze, prophets of goodbye
who go to church to pray softly
so that only the Lord can hear.
They keep in yellowed papers,
commitments that time retired...
and they line up, to receive crumbs
that the country gives back to them, please.
And they know that life is not so long
and they look at the future...
