Boricua En La Luna
Fiel A La Vega
Puerto Rican On The Moon
From the waves of the sea
Which are kisses on its shore
A woman from Aguadilla
Came to New York to sing
But not just to cry
A long cry and die
From that cry I was born
Like a beast in the rain
And I live in the long wait
To regain what I lost
For a sky that was
Ugly but flew higher
Approaching New York
A laborer from Las Marías
With hope he said
To return after a long day
But before that he made me born
And from working so much
He stayed without returning
He burst in a workshop
I am a son of a tear
And I am a son of sweat
And it was in my grandfather the love
Unique in my joy
Always fixed in memory
Of that crystal of tears
Like a chimera in the song
Of a dreamy Puerto Rico
And I am Puerto Rican with nothing
But without dismay
And the one who denies me
Let him walk very straight
May he not be the narrowest of a hallway
Pay the offense
Because as someone tells me
They say the moon is one
Whether from the sea or from the mountains
And so I shout to the villain
I would be Puerto Rican
Even if I were born on the moon
And so I shout to the villain
I would be Puerto Rican
Even if I were born on the moon.
