Forrozão Sela Rasgada - Civilization
I went to visit my backcountry where I was born and raised
I found everything different from those past years.
Today I cry and lament, blaming time for being in charge
Arriving home, I found a civilization
On a beautiful table, there was a television
Missing the place of the small altar where mother used to pray, I cry out of longing
I couldn't find the oil lamp that father used to light at night
The rusty and empty kerosene can
It breaks my heart to abandon an oil lamp because of electricity
The cold water jug was replaced by a refrigerator
It doesn't have that taste of water from the spout
Water is now brought by car, the clay jug made by Rão the potter disappeared
I couldn't find the kettle that mother used to make coffee
Nor the ox horn where father put the snuff
Today everything has changed, the civilized people don't know what it is
No longer seeing the donkeys' trot on the hills
Nor the sound of the whip making the donkeys walk fast
This is the pure truth, today only longing remains in the cowboy's heart
This is the pure truth, today only longing remains in the cowboy's heart
