Orfeo E Euridice

Orpheus And Eurydice

When Orpheus turns suddenly
Eurydice is no longer with him
-I'm sorry if I broke my pact,
but, you know how it is...-

Even Hades had promised me
that you would return with me
I had moved many souls and my song
moved me too
I stumbled into doubt,
whether to leave you forever there:
like a swan with a curved flight
reason, remained on this side

And you descended faster and faster,
astonished by Necessity,
which lifts your days up
then hurls them with brutality.

So my eyes saw you burning
and my scream echoed in the void,
in the end, the flesh, is a vulgar fact
that the mind does not bend to its game.

My mistake is a sure thing,
but I wanted to save you, you know,
from the boredom that love lacks
from the next trivialities.

With my trees, I dance in your honor,
and every day we dance so
that the part that wanted to abuse you
withdraws from the sky.

We flood ourselves with distant stars,
and with looks we no longer have,
we lift up high the wheel
of life passing down here.

Certain unfaithful Maenads have torn me apart
so I never sing again,
my severed head, however, still sings
my lyre will accompany it.

Eurydice is fate, devouring things
certainly not my cruelty
the uncertainty of days has taught me to betray
every expectation of normality
