Cucurumbé
Francisco Gabilondo Soler (Cri Cri)
Cucurumbé
Little Blackie Cucurumbé
went to bathe in the sea
to see if in the white waves
her little face could whiten.
Little Blackie Cucurumbé
approached the beach
envying the seashells
for their pale color.
She wanted to be white
like the Moon,
like the foam
that the Sea has.
A fish with a top hat
approached her,
and taking off his hat
he greeted her:
But goodness gracious!
Don't you see
that you're beautiful just as black,
Little Blackie Cucurumbé?
A fish with a top hat
approached her,
and wagging his tail
he asked her:
But goodness gracious, woman!
Don't you see
how beautiful your little face is,
Little Blackie Cucurumbé?
