La Sirenita
Francisco Gabilondo Soler (Cri Cri)
The Little Mermaid
As a fisherman passed by
in his seafaring boat
next to the rocks
bathed by the sea
he heard a voice singing ...
and rowing closer
where the breakwater breaks,
with crazy longing
to capture
that sweet voice.
When he threw
the net of his nets
he caught the little mermaid
with green reflections.
The fisherman
saw her in the moonlight,
and when he tried to touch her,
to escape from him
she turned into foam.
Since then every time
the moon is full
in his little boat
the fisherman goes
looking for a murmur ...
but the only singing
is never from the mermaid,
but from waves
breaking there,
in the calm sea.
Below him,
in the depths,
the mermaid played
with pearls and corals,
freely
far beyond his reach;
never coming out again
because the law of the sea
does not know of romance.
