Foi Deus
Francisco José
It was God
I don't know, nobody knows
Why I sing fado
In this mournful tone
Of pain and tears
And in this torment, all suffering
That I feel in my soul
Inside it calms down
In the verses I sing
It was God, who gave light to the eyes
Perfumed the rose
Gave gold to the Sun
And silver to the moon
It was God, who placed in my chest
A rosary of feathers
That I keep unraveling
And cry while singing
He put the stars in the sky
Made the endless space
Gave mourning to the swallows
And gave me this voice
If I sing, I don't know what I sing
Mixture of fortune, longing
Tenderness or maybe love
I only know that singing
I feel the same when
If I have a sorrow
And tears on my face, leave us feeling better
It was God, who gave voice to the wind
Light to the firmament
And put the blue in the waves of the sea
It was God, who placed in my chest
A rosary of feathers
That I keep unraveling
And cry while singing
Made the nightingale a poet
Put rosemary in the field
Gave flowers to spring
And gave me this voice
