Carnaval da Minha Vida
Francisco Petrônio
Carnival of My Life
Ash Wednesday dawns
In the city there's a silence that seems
Like the world itself has emptied
A distant touch of trumpets
Carrying away agonizingly
The sound of the carnival that has passed
And the usual scene repeats itself
Scattered pieces of spray perfume
Confetti and streamers on the ground
It's the mask that life threw away
Showing that joy has gone
In the traces of the passage of illusion
My life also lasted three days
Fed by fantasies
Memories of my whole life
A portrait, a flower, a ring
In the biggest party of my hope
Which also had its Ash Wednesday
Today facing the sepulchral silence
Of the remains of another carnival
I confront this scenario with my pain
What was illuminated for me yesterday
Today are mortal remains of the past
Ashes of the Carnival of my love
