The Seine

The Seine is adventurous
From Châtillon to Méry,
And its wandering mood
Strolls through the country...
It becomes languid
From Juvisy to Choisy
To meet, with a happy soul,
The lover it has chosen!
It coos, flows, flows
As soon as it enters Paris!
It winds, rolls, rolls
Around its flowery docks!
It sings, sings, sings, sings,
Singing day and night,
Because the Seine is a lover
And its lover is Paris!
It drags from island to island,
Caressing Old Paris,
It opens its docile arms
To the smile of King Henri...
Indifferent to the dignitaries
Of the Paris city hall,
It runs towards the idylls
Of the lovers of the Tuileries!
It coos, flows, flows
From the Pont-Neuf to Passy!
It is lonely, lonely, lonely
At the memory of Bercy!
It sings, sings, sings, sings,
Singing day and night...
If its walk is zigzagging
It's because it's tipsy in Paris!
But the Seine is lazy,
Passing near Neuilly,
Ah! how unhappy it is
To leave its beautiful lover!
In a loving embrace
It still embraces Paris,
To leave it, generous,
A loop ... in Saint-Denis!
It coos, flows, flows
Its lament in the night...
It rolls, rolls, rolls
Towards the sea where everything ends...
It sings, sings, sings, sings,
Singing the love of Paris!
Because the Seine is a lover
And Paris sleeps in its bed!
