Le crabe
Françoise Hardy
The crab
I put a crab in the jar where my two fish were bored
I put a crab in the jar where my two fish were bored
Among some messy algae, they lived there quietly
But the two metal claws now threaten their scales
I planted two large, very bitter lemon trees in the house
And then I cut their roots, they now grow without reason
My aquarium and my orchard are the example of my tenderness
So that my happiness is perfect, I put a crab in your heart
And with its limping gait, it alters the course of time
And I see you coming back at the mercy of its pinches
And if one day I grew tired to the point of being too bored
I would throw your heart, covered in scales, into the jar
I put a crab in the jar where my two fish were bored
I put a crab in the jar where my two fish were bored
Among some messy algae, they lived there quietly
But the two metal claws now threaten their scales
I put a crab in the jar where my two fish were bored
