Frühlingstraum
Franz Schubert
Spring Dream
I dreamed of colorful flowers
Just as they bloom in May
I dreamed of green meadows,
Of cheerful bird cries.
And when the roosters crowed
My eyes woke up
It was cold and dark,
The ravens were screaming from the roof.
But on the window panes,
Who painted the leaves there?
You probably laugh at the dreamer
Who saw flowers in winter?
I dreamed of love for love,
Of a beautiful maiden,
Of hearts and kisses,
Of bliss and happiness.
And when the roosters crowed,
My heart woke up;
Now I sit here alone
And think about the dream.
I close my eyes again,
Yet my heart beats so warmly.
When will leaves green at the window?
When will I hold my love in my arms?
