El Toro y La Luna
Gabino Pampini
The Bull and the Moon
The moon is combing
in the mirrors of a river
and a bull that is watching her
hidden among the brambles.
When the joyful morning comes
and the moon escapes from the river
the little bull goes into the water,
charging when he sees she's gone.
That bull in love with the moon
who leaves the morning behind at night,
is painted with poppy and olive
and the foreman gave him a bell.
The pilgrims from the mountains kiss him on the forehead,
the stars from the skies bathe him in silver
and the little bull, brave by breed,
his legs look like colorful fans.
