...And You?

Got a head and a heart, got sense and got reason, got respect and got value
In Brazilian work, in true work, Gabriel the Thinker!

I'm Brazilian
Brazilian rapper
But I'm Brazilian before being a rapper or a pagode singer or both or none
I can assimilate world culture
But I know I was born in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
So don't be stupid to think I couldn't sing this way or that
Because I'll express myself in the form and time I choose
Here or anywhere
Always valuing our roots, customs, musical culture in general
So listen to what I say to the Americanized mental weakling
(You're a fool and don't see the excellent culture and customs of your own country
And spread your legs for what others impose on you
Without a condom or vaseline as Uncle Sam always wanted)
But radical xenophobia won't help either
I'll throw away what's bad and use what's good from world culture
I'll read, watch, listen, and sing
And not neglecting the cultural production from my place
And deep down, all men came from Africa
Especially some peoples like those born and raised here in this homeland
And don't forget that each culture forms in a certain way
And each society cultivates its norms, but together we form humanity
That includes all human beings
Who can stand out from other animals by their ability to think
An ability that is often not used
And so it's useless
But I think, think, therefore I exist
I exist, therefore I think and try to use this reasoning ability all the time
I can think in the form of Rap, Book, Painting, or Baião
I can think right, but also have the right to make mistakes, fool
But I try to see everything and if I didn't see, friend, I'd wear glasses
I'm just another party-less guy like Denise Stoklos
And I speak to all those who want to listen and will agree or disagree
Maybe they'll wake up
Maybe follow me or maybe boo me (but I'll give a damn)
And I speak to my fellow countrymen, but I can speak to foreigners too
I'm just a Latin American guy
So first and foremost, what I say is for Brazilians
Including for the dumb blondes, playboys, for the military, and for the believers
For all the needy bastards who suffer from cultural domination
Whether social, military, religious, or international indoctrination
Humanly, I'm also on the side of these poor souls on the wrong path
And that's why they deserve and need to be put in their place
Brazilians need a brainwash
Taking advantage of what comes from abroad but without forgetting our national value
Cultural, natural, and our history
It's sad to look in the mirror and know I belong to a people without memory
And it's our fault that nothing changes in the country
Misery has been permanent since the first Portuguese arrived here
The deficiencies of this society have been here since early on:
Hunger, Corruption, Inequality, Cowardly people, Unemployment
In the past, the slave system didn't allow for free work
Today the problems are different
Space is still limited and overpopulation is proof
And even today, it's good to remember
Those who work are not free men and remain enslaved as always
Slaves, that's what we are
Slaves to our own lack of action
Some delude themselves waiting for something to change
The most affected forget where they are and applaud everything imported
I hope it's clear which side I'm on
Despite being an earthling
Gabriel The Thinker will never forget this piece of the planet he came from
This beautiful, tired, suffering, and exploited piece called Brazil
So if you only pay attention to what comes from outside, don't pay attention to me
Throw me away
(Goodbye! I'm leaving)(Go!)(No! Stay there)
I'll stay, to the joy and partial satisfaction of the nation
Bringing a new language, a new form of communication
That many Brazilians still didn't know: Hip Hop
That didn't have much popularity because many didn't understand
But nowadays it's universal and even in Japan, it's embraced
And for those who thought it was a drug, after this dose, be careful not to get addicted
Because I inject Hip Hop in my veins, in my mind, in front, in the back, in my chest
And I don't forget I'm Brazilian so I make Hip Hop my way
Our way
This way you've never known
With Brazilians playing instruments or more Be Sample than Fernanda Abreu (Rio 40°!)
It's the cultural capital of the national territory
The purgatory of beauty and chaos in summer or winter
Purgatory that for many is worse than hell
And at the same time, it's heaven for a few lucky ones
Deaf-mute Brazilians who despite everything are smiling
For them, they keep denying and spitting on those who are asking and feeling
'The bitter taste of our selfishness that destroys our hearts
Is it just imagination?'
No, No, I don't think so
And if you don't want reality, then go watch TV
But I'm in real life and don't want to escape from this reality
And I think I'd get sick if I looked in the mirror and saw a coward
So I'll continue the idealism that seems like art
And if needed, I'll change my name like Chico Buarque
And 'despite you' not moving
I don't know why, you idiot
Listen to me
What's the point of being a son of the Saint?
It would be better to be a son of the fight
It would be nice if everything was a dream and when I woke up, everything was beautiful and ready
But we don't deserve that because we only live sleeping on the job
So I try to stay awake even in bed when I'm sleeping
And I'm not part of any urban tribe because I'm not entirely indigenous
I have a bit of indigenous blood, but not entirely
I have a bit of everything in my blood because I'm Brazilian
But what I definitely don't have in my blood is shame of who I am
And I don't know why Brazilians lack self-esteem and don't value themselves
But I value myself
My head
My ideas
My friends
My freedom of thought
My land
The ground I walk on
My style
My culture
The customs and the people where I live
Among many other things that I value and that you'll understand later
And you, friend? What do you value?
