Je suis un autre
Georges Moustaki
I am another
I am a beginner with graying temples
An aging beatnik novice patriarch
A libertine gardener with adventurous tastes
An immobile traveler and a daydreaming dreamer
I am one of those lizards born tired
A bitter optimist, a cheerful pessimist
A man of today with the beard of an apostle
I can be all that yet I am another
I am you, I am me, I am who resembles me
And I resemble those who travel the road together
To seek something and to change life
Rather than die of an unfulfilled dream
With them, I go wherever the wind blows
Wherever there is celebration and wherever there is suffering
But when I fall asleep in the midst of tall grass
I find myself alone and I feel like another
Tonight I came with a guitar around my neck
To share my songs and dream with you
To shout with a hoarse voice all my revolts
And speak of my sorrows with a casual air
I left a bit of modesty in the cloakroom
To better reveal myself in front of the spotlights
And sing about loves that are a bit yours
That are mine even if I am another
