La carte du tendre
Georges Moustaki
The Map of Tenderness
Along the river that flows upstream
By the shores of the encounter
At the sources of wonder
We see in the rising day
A whole dream country opening up
The tender land of lovers
We set off with trembling hearts
From the joy of leaving together
Without knowing what awaits us
Thus begins the journey
Strewn with pitfalls and mirages
Of love and its torments
Some torrents of gossip
Come to tear apart the silence
Trying to take everything away
And then we risk shipwreck
When the wind takes you far
To the islands of infidelity
Further on, the current carries you away
Towards the rocks of discord
And the difficulty of supporting each other
Finally, the land is stripped bare
It's the desert of habit
Boredom has devastated everything
When the road seems too long
There is the stopover of lies
The inn of jealousy
We have a lunch of resentment
And we get drunk on bitterness
Pride keeps you company there
But when everything seems adrift
The river rolls its lively water
And we set off again endlessly
Where we discover on the edge of Tenderness
The garden where we can stretch out
The promised land of forgetfulness
