Fatalita'
Gigliola Cinquetti
Fatalism
Not being twenty anymore
and knowing life
like the bottom of a glass
of champagne
then one day say enough
and get on a train
without asking anyone
where it's going
meeting you on that train
and exchanging a few words
like two who have never
seen each other
a long tunnel,
a never-ending minute
and understanding that you are alone
like me.
Fatalism,
love is fatalism
even when you call it luck
it's fatalism.
Arguing after a day
without having a reason
and leaving for Paris
without you
and entering clubs
to seek joy
but finding only smoke
and nothing more
then entering a church
and seeing you kneeling
in my heart I understood
it was you
and I felt you were praying
without a shadow of shame
and I understood you were praying
even for me.
Fatalism,
love is fatalism
even when you call it luck
it's fatalism.
To die is always too soon,
to love it's not too late
fortunately love
has no age
whether it's done in a meadow
or just in thought
or in the darkness of a city
room.
Fatalism,
love is fatalism
even when you call it luck
it's fatalism.
