Me Cambiaron Las Preguntas
Gilberto Santa Rosa
They Changed All the Questions
I was taught as a kid that life was like a train,
with people getting on and off, all getting along,
all together like good brothers,
always happy…
But the train of our childhood took a different track,
it seems we ended up on a streetcar instead,
where when you get on, buddy, let me tell you,
they pick your pocket without you even moving from your seat.
When I learned all the answers,
they changed all the questions.
When I learned all the answers,
they changed all the questions.
In this complicated world, I’ll never understand it.
My grandma used to tell me how beautiful it is to dream,
that you never have to wake up.
Everything's possible if you behave, they take you to Disney.
But from the dream she spoke of, I woke up to a nightmare,
where the Disney mouse was actually a squirrel.
That’s life, and I won’t complain,
after health, what else matters?
When I learned all the answers,
they changed all the questions.
When I learned all the answers,
they changed all the questions.
In this complicated world, I’ll never understand it.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
I don’t know if it’s you, I don’t know if it’s what.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
They’re building a wall against the undocumented,
and for the labor force…
(Say it, Rubén)
They hired illegals.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
I don’t know what it is.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
For peace, they wage war,
I can’t comprehend it.
If the war against hunger, Rubén,
that’s the war they need to fight.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
At Eligia Elena’s house,
her grandma fainted,
because in the middle of the living room,
there was a picture of Mandela.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
Listen to me,
here in our countries, they say machismo is over.
And even though women work just like men,
they never earn the same.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
I don’t know what it is.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
I don’t know, I can’t tell you how it was.
There’s a Black president in the United States,
and despite the evident progress,
we’re still screwed.
I don’t know if it’s me!!!

Hey Gilbertito.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
It’s going to get worse, crisis in the economy.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
But the mall, that’s never empty.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
In life, they’re just a bunch of communist wannabes.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
These days they have more money than the capitalists.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
They ask for real salsa with musicians from Havana.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
But they’re going to ruin it if they buy pirated records.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
They threw money at the banks like it was a rope.
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
But what about the mortgaged, abandoned people, what do they do now?
I don’t know if it’s me, or if the world’s upside down.
No one knows where we’re going, no one knows what time it is.
I don’t know if it’s me, I don’t know if it’s me, I don’t know if it’s me.
Thanks, Gilbertito,
Keep it going, Rubén.
A shout-out to Mrs. Gertrudis.
