Pedidos de um Gaúcho
Gildo de Freitas
Requests of a Gaucho
I want to leave some requests
Already engrave them in memory
When I go to heaven
To end my story
I will sing verses to the angels
For the whole kingdom of glory
Remove the mourning from the prayer and
Make a big grave
So I can climb up it
Until the gates of heaven
Because God will hear
The prayer the people made
And from there I will sing
Beautiful verses for you
And my first request
Now I'm declaring
I want a cavalry
Accompanying my burial
People clapping
And an accordion crying
At the time of my wake
I want four lanterns
Properly dressed
My friends and companions
And I want to be buried
Right there in my pasture
Around my grave
Let the grass grow
One or two friendly horses
Grazing around me
Don't put me on the wall
Because it's against my will
Put me in the virgin soil
That helped me grow
There's no need for crying
Let everyone think like that
I want two Indians singing
On the day I come to an end
And what I sang for you
I want you to sing for me
Friends, this invitation
Is for the end of my life
I want songs freely
Let the drink flow
Drink, sing, but don't fight
And respect my deceased
To avoid me waking up
And fighting alongside
And my last request
Fulfill with devotion
The flag of Rio Grande
Wrap it around my coffin
And a sign on the cross
That will be nailed to the ground
Here lies a gaucho
Who honored the tradition
Let's close the gate!
