Saudades de Minha Terra
Gildo de Freitas
Longing for My Land
I want to go to my land, I want to ease the longing
I want to see what I don't see, here inside the city
I want to stay a long time, be there the whole month
I want to do all the work, that I used to do before
I want to tame a wild colt that I haven't tamed in a long time
Have a mate to my liking, that I haven't had in a long time
Have a mate to my liking, that I haven't had in a long time
Eat the wild fruits from the woods of my farm
Planted by the master's hand that I ate in my childhood
I want to do everything if my wish comes true
I want to milk the cows, make cheese
Make a twelve-loop lasso, spread out in space
And close in on the animal's horns, to show that arm is arm
I want to ride a lot, on the back of good horses
Hoe a lot with a hoe, so my hands get calloused
Drag a water jug on my horse's saddle
To remember my childhood, and my first job
I want to find an accordion player and have a lively dance
And prove that I am the heir, of the inheritance of the past
To prove that I am the heir, of the inheritance of the past
Plow the land without a tractor, hold the plow's tail
For the sake of muscle, chop wood with an axe
And bring a photographer to take pictures
And prove to my friends, everything I used to do there
I will make those who never believed me believe
And others will know, who I was and who I am
And others will know, who I was and who I am
