Baile do Chico Torto
Gildo de Freitas
The Dance of Chico Torto
Speaking:
Hey, let's go there, boy, that's how they used to dance over there
at old Chico's.
I went to a dance at Chico Torto's house
It was a lively and loose dance, but only the brave danced
When I arrived, there had just been a commotion
And there was already a dead person in front
Speaking:
That guy who was dead wasn't from a fighting breed
but it was easier and the knife got him and he was gone
I paid the entrance fee and danced until I was hunched over
And when I got to the back, there was another one being
waked
I'm a gaucho who understands this matter
I wrote some verses for the deceased
And returned to the dance hall dancing
Speaking:
I wasn't going to dance anymore, but the deceased had some pretty cousins who were a sight.
I thought to myself: now I'll arrange to dance with his cousin as a pair or I'll fall for all of them at once.
I shouted for the accordionist to play a march
And a suspicious cowboy looked at me with angry eyes
And I, a gaucho who knows a thing or two
I drew my knife from above and split the accordion in half.
Speaking:
The guy was having a hard time in life, and I always heard that
two things are better than one, so I decided to make two
accordions for the living.
The shooting started and the revelry ended
And about four or five were groaning and the rest were already dead
How I enjoyed that entertainment
A good dance one hundred percent is only seen at Chico Torto
