Mujer en el tiempo
Ginette Acevedo
Woman in Time
I am
The one who waits for you in the afternoons when you come back
The one who watches over the kids every moment
The one who fights daily for you all
And I am
The partner who looks for you when you wake up
The faithful cloth for your silent tears
The one who gives you new strength to keep fighting
And I am
Like a shadow that admires and respects you
But demands you show your interest
And won’t hesitate to raise your wounded voice
If I see you caught in defeat
In short, I am a woman
A voice, beyond
That through time
Comes to find you
(Spoken)
I have been in Punta Arenas the shepherd's woman
A tough colonist in Llanquihue, Puerto Aysén
And in the timber forests of my land
I left a scent of woman behind
In the harvests and crops, I became laughter
In the fields of hope, I became bread
And on the coast, I was the love of fishermen
Who satisfied their horizon in my hive
In Chañaral, I sought silver and the earth's guts
I was a teacher, tenderness, a nymph
And from the saltpeter, I was a pioneer at dawn
I crossed the desert behind my soldiers
With this love, I closed their eyes and kept marching on
(Sung)
And so
While living in the vinegar of tomorrow
And claiming a territory with my wild hair
I will be a mother, my love, my sister
I will be a woman who loves this land
And I will be a mother, my love, my sister
I will forever be the Chilean woman
