The Cricket

On a clear night, with a full moon
Like a white cheese on the plate of the sky
In the middle of the woods, I heard a voice
That always spoke
Chirp, chirp, chirp

Dressed in the night, lost in the dark
Standing in a corner I couldn't find
Its long body, an elegant insect
I confess, I didn't see
I only heard its song in the lost shadow
Chirp, chirp, chirp

It was alone, without any friend
To talk to, so I decided
To have a conversation with the cheerful cricket
Hey, cricket, don't be afraid, I'm not here to fight
Did you understand what I said?
And the cricket, from the dark, answered right away
As if it understood
Chirp, chirp, chirp

I was very happy, it understood me
And responded to me
With satisfaction
I started telling stories
That kept it quiet
Paying attention

Once, my friend
A very gentle and pure man came into the world
Forgiving everyone
Freeing slaves
Satisfying the poor
And healing the sick
Such a kind man
I have never seen the likes of
Did you understand what I said?
The cricket replied to me
As if it understood
Chirp, chirp, chirp

Because that prophet
(He was a prophet)
Though he was human
Dedicated and friendly
Received from men
The worst punishment
I have ever known
On a heavy cross
He was crucified
His hands bled
Torn, wounded
His clear forehead
Was washed in blood
He suffered tortures
Like I have never seen
Did you understand what I said?
The cricket replied to me
As if it understood
Chirp, chirp, chirp

But one day, a beautiful
Sunday
That pure man
Who had never sinned
In the world
Broke the chains
Of icy death
And rose again
His body, in the stone
Of the dark tomb
No one found anymore
The blessed name
Of the sovereign Being
Of glory and light
Sounds like a hymn
Sometimes human
Sometimes divine
The name is Jesus

This sweet friend
Who suffered like this
Endured punishment
And death for me
To be honest
I must confess
He was wounded
To save me
Well, it's getting late
I'm going to sleep, my friend
Goodnight, cricket
But, oh companion
Did you truly
Believe what I said here?
The cricket replied to me
As if it understood
Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp
