Rap About Abortion
She screams, showing a helplessness
I could never imagine
Her tears are a waterfall of her sad reality
Her world is crumbling while this society
Has slowly consumed her with its judgmental ways
It’s not fiction, it’s reality
And she can’t escape
Her gaze is on the ground, she can’t lift it up
Because of those looks that try to humiliate her
That’s why she lives in the silence of her own loneliness
Where she has to survive and where she has to endure
Because just stepping outside makes her feel like shit
No one accepts what she wants, and so they judge her wrong
All she seeks is to not make her life worse
She has no home, no steady paycheck
And that husband she had just walked out on her
After hearing the news that a child was on the way
And that taxes were rising a little more each day
So she wanted to save that child
From the misery waiting in the world she’s in
That’s why she gathered the courage to make a choice
And though it was hard, it wasn’t as tough as her reality
She decided to abort
To risk it all
And even though she knows it’s illegal, she goes on alone
Heading to a back-alley clinic at the hour
What that doctor gave her to go alone
She knows there’s a big risk, but she won’t stop
Because she doesn’t want to see that being suffer
And though she wants abortion to be safe and normal
She understands the risk is high in the place she’s going
She closes her eyes
The light fades away
She never imagined the rest
That she wouldn’t come back
She slipped into an eternal dream
At the beginning of the end
Her mind lies buried underground
And she’ll never see again what days before was her reality
But at least she saved her child from what awaited
And the doctor who performed the abortion is now in prison
Paying for trying to help a woman
But the worst part is that this case
Isn’t isolated; there are thousands more
All because they made abortion an illegal issue.
