O Som do Sol
Grilo Dias
The Sound of the Sun
From the top of that building, the city lights and stars reflected
There was no difference between the little points that shone
Some beneath her feet, others above her eyes
She wants to fly, but where's the sky?
And if she tries to jump high, she knows she’ll fall
But just think, the points switch places
Before the lights go out, she’ll be close to hearing the sound of the sun
The symmetry confuses as bare feet hover in the air
Down below, the police car runs the red light
A blind man feels the rough smell of concrete
A dog shivers from the cold and an old lady crosses the street
Swallowing a cry she can’t hear
Up above, stellar explosions, a vacuum that screams and the sound of the sun
A high-frequency buzz she can’t hear
Just bright points of electromagnetic energy
Or luminous celestial bodies
And if she tries to jump high, she knows she’ll fall
But just think, the points switch places
Before the lights go out, she’ll be close to hearing the sound of the sun
And what if she could hear them?
Woman, may you be home before the tear escapes
And your scream deafens you
Man, may you walk more often among the ladies of the night
Than among this concrete that surrounds the sad people of this place
And what if she could hear them?
On the other side of the city, a boy looks up and imagines
What sound is made up there?
A high-frequency buzz
A noise he can’t hear
La ra ra ra - la ra ra ra
Who will hear the sound of the sun?
