The Orphan
A prisoner sang one afternoon
a very sad song
oh if my parents were alive
I wouldn't be here in prison
They would have spoken up for me
they would give me their blessing
for the orphan there is no sun
everyone wants to be the father
Cousins, relatives, and brothers
are ashamed of my blood
And every step I take are memories of my mother
When I got drunk
my mother would come looking for me
Wherever I was
she would sadly start to cry
and if something happened to me
she would come to console me
I remember she would say
every time I went out for a walk
My dear son
don't take too long
because I fear that one day you won't find me
Poor thing, my mother
how pitifully she died
she peacefully fell into the deepest sleep
But unfortunate me
left alone in the world
As I cry in my solitude
near her grave
oh my god have mercy
look at my sad bitterness
These tears I shed
I don't shed them out of cowardice
I shed them because I remember
the memories of my mother
From the sky fell a flower
that the wind scattered
for all my friends
