Poema a La Mujer Del Campo

Poem to the Woman of the Countryside
I dedicate this poem with much love
To the woman of the countryside
I feel happy singing to the world
And with my guitar brightening the night
I sing to the woman who works sweating
Moving the mill to make the sugarcane juice
The one who plants love with bare feet
And her lips taste like pineapple and mango
My best verses, my best charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
My best verses, my best charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
From her sack she takes a panela and a coffee
She goes with her machete to harvest and collect
She puts it in her canoe and goes to the market to sell
But what she earns is not enough to eat
She goes upriver, she goes downriver
Full of hope but with no rest
And she keeps working and keeps working
And she keeps working but doesn't know until when
My best verses, my best charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
My best verses, my best charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
When I sing to her, she becomes happy
And when I leave, she starts to cry
She says that my singing fills her with calm
When the day comes and she goes to the mountain
To water small plant seeds
To heal the bird wounded in a wing
To bring the axe, the pick, and the shovel
To open the path that leads to the ravine
The woman of the countryside has for me
A woman's soul and a man's courage
My best verses, my best charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
My best verses, my best charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
My best verses, my greatest charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
The one who plants flowers instead of tears
A woman's soul and a man's courage
My best verses, my greatest charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
And she asks God to perform a miracle
To sell the harvest to fix the ranch
My best verses, my greatest charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
And when night falls, she takes care of the children
A woman's soul and a man's courage
My best verses, my greatest charm
I dedicate them to the woman of the countryside
How could I not sing to you
If you are a great inspiration of culture and art
If you are the world's lung and I am part of the world
Don't lose faith, don't lose faith
You can also live in the countryside
Don't lose faith, don't lose faith
You can also be happy in the countryside
The woman of the countryside is like a slave
She is the world's lung and owner of nothing
