I was so fair and lovely a maiden
With a stepmother evil, my mother she died
She transformed me into a wolf and a needle
And sent me away from the king's court
And my stepmother's anger was greatest
When all the noblest ones liked me best
She gave me a skin like a gray wolf
She swore me to wander alone in the forest
And never will I be whole and good
Until I drink my brother's blood
