La Nostra Storia
Guido Renzi
Our Story
And so you're really there
(It doesn't seem true, you know)
When I no longer expected you
(But I know you understand me)
Just as I invented you
(I didn't believe you existed)
Day by day, month by month
(I searched for you for so long)
Until the point of thinking
(That I no longer expected you)
That I wanted someone who wasn't there
(And I thought you weren't there)
At first, I saw you
(I remember as a boy)
As my body wanted you
(I saw you with desire)
And I couldn't sleep at night
(Of course, a bit confusedly)
Tossing and turning in bed
(Even though I thought a lot)
And I imagined you naked
(It wasn't enough to complete me)
Until I exhausted my senses
I looked for you in a friend
In my mother's gaze
In a child's smile
In the pleasure of thinking
Then I had you in many women
As many disappointments
All with nothing underneath
But also with nothing inside
The mediocrity of everyone
(Words spoken into the wind)
The certainty of knowing
(Always to those who didn't understand me)
That I listened to those who spoke
(And I remained alone again)
Even thinking of other things
(Never feeling their weight)
Made me think
(It's normal, I told myself)
That it was useless to look for you
(Until I met you)
Then the desire for a glance
(Growing day by day)
The response to silence
(The emotion of understanding)
The pleasure of talking
(That we were just alike)
And the joy of listening
(Unlike in my past)
And the desire in the eyes
(As if always touching)
As if for the first time
(A skin never touched)
And so for days and days
Always like the first day
Never, not even in thought
Neither a contrast nor boredom
What makes me suffer
Is the thought of knowing
That someone could say
This is really my story
I will look them in the eyes
They will look into mine
Perhaps I will laugh disappointed
But who would understand
And so for days and days
Always like the first day
Never, not even in thought
