No Me Viste a Mí

Harold Velazquez Harold Velazquez

You Didn't See Me

I don't even know who taught you
What you're doing today
I wasn't the one who showed you
All that you're seeing today
Your behavior is getting worse
As you grow up

I can't understand what you're becoming
You keep doing and undoing
Explain to me, I don't understand
It was the topic of conversation
For those who are watching you
I can't stand anymore what I'm living with you

Raised in a place with Christian values
I tried to make you a healthy child
I taught you what's right and what's wrong when you were little
And now that you're growing up, I see it was all in vain
The truth is, I don't understand
Explain to me what happened

Who was the worldly one who influenced your mind
Who instilled all those thoughts and questions in you
And contradicted everything your family taught you

I warned you a thousand times that I didn't want you with them
That I didn't like
Neither their style nor their hair
And now, look at you
You want to dress like them
And you even want to do all the things they do

It's a complete contradiction
That your mother and I have positions in the congregation
And our son doesn't even care about his salvation
And says he doesn't want anything to do with religion

Don't you realize I have a position in the temple
And you're not setting an example for others
Everyone talks about me because of you
Do you think that makes me happy?
You're damaging what I've been building my whole life

I'm going to give you a warning
Pay attention and let it be engraved in your conscience
Remove all those bad influences from your life
Do it one more time and you'll face ugly consequences

You hid the world from me so much, and when I found it, I didn't know how to handle it
I was confronted, and I didn't know how to confront it
I was confused, and I didn't know how to control it
I was offered, and I didn't know how to reject it

I only knew about skirts and pants
And I didn't know how to make some decisions
In reality, I only received instructions
And that I couldn't listen to some songs

I never understood why I couldn't go to heaven
The day I had a streak in my hair
Many times I cried and didn't receive comfort
I had to stand up on my own

I asked why I should believe in God
But you were busy and didn't know how to answer me
Then I went to a friend
And he told me that those were things invented to control me

He told me my family was old-fashioned
That they were just religious and didn't know anything
And I couldn't find anything to respond to him
Because the day I asked, you didn't tell me anything either

I heard that I should be a light in the darkness
But the truth is, I didn't understand it either
Because since I wasn't mentally strong
Instead of influencing him, I was influenced

Many questions without answers
And false answers brought me here
To the point where you scold me
For not following dogmas or doctrines
That I didn't even understand

So many questions without a solution
My confusion remained unanswered
I do care about knowing about salvation
I do want to learn about creation
I want to know the reason for my conviction
I want to serve God with passion
I want to know the God of creation
But in search of that, religion hits me

You came to my house and you didn't see me
Among so many rules
You didn't see me
You tried to do what I'm supposed to do
You got tired and ran away from me
The best part is that I'm still here

You came to my house and you didn't see me
Among so many rules
You didn't see me
You tried to do what I'm supposed to do
You got tired and ran away from me
The best part is that I'm still here

Many times religion doesn't show the truth of the gospel
The one that truly sets us free
