I read that Jesus was arrested
My soul trembled with pain
I didn’t feel this way before
But now it’s got me stirred up
I read that He was led away
To the court in Jerusalem
There He suffered great shame
And was crowned with thorns as well

I know I was the guilty one
But He already suffered for me
I know He was innocent
Enduring all of this

I read that Jesus was judged
He carried a heavy cross
And on it, breathing His last
He took on my vile sins
While hanging on the cross
A spear pierced His side
They gave Him vinegar on a sponge
And He drank it down for me

Then Joseph of Arimathea
And other disciples too
Laid Him in a tomb
And the guards kept watch real close
While in the world, He said
That He would rise again
And God performed a miracle
Bringing Him back from the dead!

When an angel came from heaven
And the stone at the door
Was rolled away with great power
Quickly the bonds fell off
This was God’s plan all along
And the light and life shone bright
