Mommy, I Want a Pony
Two pretty ponies stood each day
In front of a little kid's door
A poor, sickly little guy
With a face that had no color
With big eyes full of longing
His little nose pressed against the glass
He looked with a feverish glow on his cheeks
Every morning at the ponies out
Mommy, give me a pony
The little guy asked again and again
Mommy, I just want a pony and nothing more
When his birthday finally came
Our little guy thought, I’ll get a pony
The shadows from his childhood dreams
Maybe mom had saved them up
But no one came with presents
Because everyone forgot about him
So mom bought with her last penny
A box of crayons for her dear
Mommy, give me a pony
The little guy asked again and again
Mommy, I just want a pony and nothing more
And in the bitter cold nights
His mom often shed a tear
Then she whispered in her thoughts
Winter’s coming, he won’t make it through
Yet when death came for the family
It didn’t take the child but his mom
Then two black horses appeared
And rode off to the cemetery
Mommy, I don’t want a pony
The little guy said again and again
Mommy, I’ll never ask for a pony again
