Der Mond ist aufgegangen
Herbert Grönemeyer
The Moon Has Risen
The moon has risen
The golden little stars shine
In the sky bright and clear
The forest stands black and silent
And from the meadows rises
The white mist wonderfully
How quiet the world is
As in a twilight veil
So cozy and so lovely
Like a quiet chamber
Where you should
Sleep off and forget the day's sorrows
Do you see the moon standing there
It is only half visible
And yet round and beautiful
There are many things
That we laugh at confidently
Because our eyes do not see them
So lay down, brothers
In God's name
The evening breeze is cold
Spare us, God, from punishment
And let us all sleep peacefully
And our sick neighbors too
