Gaztelugatxe

Gaztelugatxe
About six hundred years ago
something happened by the coast,
an old sailor told me
at least that’s how the story goes,
a terrible storm at Gaztelugatxe
sank a beautiful ship,
for us Basques inside
it brought great treasures.
One summer morning
with the sun’s first rays
I headed out to sea
my heart racing with excitement,
I dove into the clear waters,
searching well among the rocks,
there it was, secured
covered in seaweed.
With all my strength I pushed
I opened the treasure chest,
a huge wave pulled me back,
I was caught in its swell,
not wanting to crush anyone,
not wanting to be crushed,
this is our refuge,
the source of all treasures.
And if it wasn’t like this
let them take me to hell,
those very funny tales
I told you in the square.
