Kriminal-tango
Hildegard Knef
Criminal Tango
Criminal tango in the tavern.
Dark figures
And red light.
Criminal tango in the tavern.
Dark figures,
Red lantern.
Night after night the fuse is lit,
Electric tension hangs in the air.
And they dance a tango
Jacky Brown and Baby Miller.
And he whispers to her: baby,
When I finish my drink
You turn off the light.
Then he orders two Manhattans
And then a guy with glasses shows up.
Jack drinks up
And Baby shivers
But then she quickly turns off the light.
Criminal tango in the tavern.
Dark figures,
Red lantern.
Night after night the fuse is lit,
Electric tension hangs in the air.
And they dance a tango
All those who have no clue.
And they ask the band:
Don’t you have something hot?
'Cause they can’t know
What happens between day and dawn
In the nighttime tavern
With the tango already done.
Criminal tango in the tavern.
Dark figures,
Red lantern.
Burning glances, rising tension,
And into the tension
A shot rings out.
And they dance a tango
Jacky Brown and Baby Miller.
And the cops can’t find anything
That seems suspicious.
Only that guy
With the glasses
Who the shot in the dark was aimed at
Might still have something to say
But that guy
He says nothing more.
Criminal tango in the tavern.
Dark figures,
Red lantern.
Night after night it’s always the same,
'Cause this tango never ends,
Never ends.
Never ends.
