The mountain range broke apart,
Into a thousand pieces smiling,
And in the lowland, in the sunlight,
A beautiful city emerged before my eyes.

Like a woman's smile,
Like a girl's longing,
This beautiful Leopoldina
Arose from the earth's bosom.

Born to conquer
And be like a standard.
Therefore, this city
Is great by tradition.

And marches without fear,
Seeking to guide
Its children towards the light
Of the good that leads
To glory in its future.

Athens teaching
The children of Brazil,
The safe path
Of good and duty.

It doesn't know how to be silent
In the light of the azure sky,
How much it seeks
To fight for knowledge.
