La Machine
Holden
The Machine
Basically, we start from the bottom
Scraping by like a prisoner
Hoping that one day the machine will stop.
I’m sweating and marching in line
I hear screams behind me
One day the machine has to stop.
I’ve had enough
I’ve lost my pride
I’ve given it all
To keep up with those ahead of me.
I don’t know any more than you do
I don’t believe it any more than that,
But nothing changes, nothing disrupts the rhythm.
I’ve learned all the tricks
All the crank moves
To make sure one day the machine doesn’t stop.
I don’t question things anymore
I’ve made some resolutions
To ensure it doesn’t stop one day.
I’m busy like a pro
With its big power plays
And it takes up my vacation days too.
I don’t know any more than you do
I don’t believe it any more than that,
But nothing changes, nothing disrupts the rhythm.
It really gets me down
Seeing these people fighting
To make sure one day the machine will stop.
We don’t really know where it’s headed
The hopes of that guy
They all settle deep in our minds.
I’ve had enough
I’ve lost my pride
I’ve given it all
To keep up with those ahead of me.
I don’t know any more than you do
I don’t believe it any more than that,
But nothing changes, nothing disrupts the rhythm.
