Milonga del novecientos
Homero Manzi
Nineteenth Century Milonga
I like things uneven
and I don't walk on the sidewalk.
I wear funghi like Massera,
I wear military boots.
I loved her just because I did
and that's why I'm suffering,
she left me, I don't even know when,
or when she'll come back.
The guitars mention her
every time they play her song.
The little streets of the neighborhood
and the edge of my knife.
The stars mention her
and the wind from the outskirts.
I don't know why they mention her to me
if I can't forget her.
I'm wary in love,
and I trust in the game.
Where I'm invited, I stay
and where I'm not needed, I leave.
I belong to everyone's party
and I get along with everyone,
but know this
I'm a man of Leandro Alem!
I don't like the cobblestones
and I don't go for modern things.
I rest when I'm sick
and after I've healed.
I love her just because I do
and that's why I forgive her.
There's nothing worse than holding a grudge
to live in bitterness.
