Libertango
My freedom loves me and I give my whole being to it.
My freedom unlocks the prison of my bones.
My freedom is offended if I am happy with fear.
My naked freedom makes perfect love to me.
My freedom insists on what I dare not do.
My freedom loves me with what I wear.
My freedom absolves me if I ever lose it
because of things in life that I fail to understand.
My freedom does not count the years I have,
unyielding shepherd of my eternal dreams.
My freedom leaves me and I am a poor specter,
my freedom calls me and I return in winged attire.
My freedom understands that I feel imprisoned
by my mistakes without repentance.
My freedom would like the restless star
and the captive atom, to be free, what a mystery!
To be free. Already in her womb my mother told me
"freedom cannot be bought nor is it a gift or favor".
I live from the beautiful secret of this orgy:
if I was dust and to dust I will go, I am dust of joy
and in soul's milk I impregnate my blooming freedom.
As a child I adored her, I grew desiring her,
my freedom, woman of time and light,
I love her even to the pain and to the loneliness.
My freedom dreams of my beloved dead,
my freedom adores those I love in life.
My freedom tells me, from time to time, inside,
that we are as happy as we wish to be.
My freedom knows the one who killed and the raven
that suffocates and torments the good one's freedom.
My freedom has a heart attack from hypocrites and fools,
my freedom stays up late with saints and bohemians.
My freedom is tango wide open
and it's blues and it's cueca and choro, danzón and ballad.
My freedom is tango, minstrel from town to town,
and it's murga and symphony and choir in black and white.
My freedom is tango dancing in ten thousand ports
and it's rock, malambo and psalm and it's opera and flamenco.
My libertango is free, poet and street performer,
as old as the world, as simple as a creed.
As a child I adored her, I grew desiring her,
my freedom, woman of time and light,
I love her even to the pain and to the loneliness.
